Case Study

Consultation & Planning for Community Workshop Activation

Introduction

A collective of regional local governments identified an opportunity to revitalise underutilised community workshop spaces and secured grant funding to support a process to achieve this. Despite being well-equipped, these hubs were not fully engaging existing members or attracting new participants. The goal was to maximise their potential, ensuring they better served residents and fostered greater community involvement.

Situation

These community spaces faced challenges in sustaining engagement and participation. While the necessary facilities and resources were in place, the absence of a clear strategy to meet member needs and attract broader involvement limited their impact. Additionally, local leaders sought to encourage collaboration between these spaces to promote shared learning and resource efficiency.

Solution

To ensure meaningful and strategic support, community leaders engaged BlueSalt Consulting (under our previous branding of Anna Dixon Consulting). The project incorporated:

  • Stakeholder Consultations – Engaging with existing and potential participants to understand their needs, interests, and barriers to involvement.
  • Community-Driven Engagement – Facilitating informal and inclusive discussions to encourage open dialogue and innovative ideas.
  • Tailored Action Plans – Developing clear strategies for each community to enhance participation and long-term sustainability.
  • Collaboration Opportunities – Identifying ways for different groups to work together, share resources, and strengthen regional networks.

This approach ensured that all solutions were locally relevant and community-led.

Outcome

The project resulted in:

  • Greater empowerment of participants, fostering ownership of solutions tailored to their needs.
  • Practical Action Plans that enabled communities to allocate resources effectively and secure funding for further development.
  • Strengthened collaboration and communication between community groups, creating a more connected and resilient network.

These revitalised regional community hubs are now well-positioned to offer engaging activities, support their members, and contribute positively to the broader local population.
