Foundational Research and Strategy Development – WA Peak Body

Introduction

BlueSalt Consulting was engaged by a peak body in Western Australia to undertake research and strategy development on a potential new area of representation.

Situation

While the potential new area presented many benefits, it also had several challenges, including mixed community perceptions. As an established peak body with existing members, the organisation had to consider how to maintain their reputation and represent current members, should they take on these additional responsibilities.

Solution

BlueSalt Consulting were engaged to objectively work through all considerations with the organisation, prior to them formally committing resources. To inform the work, BlueSalt engaged the support of Andrew Huffer & Associates to manage extensive stakeholder consultation.

BlueSalt Consulting delivered this work in three stages, with the findings of each stage guiding the focus of the next stage:

  • Market Report: Conducted extensive research on usage trends, economic impact, regulations, and user perceptions through desktop analysis, stakeholder interviews and surveys.
  • Membership Review: Assessed the organisation’s membership structure, benchmarked against similar organisations, identified opportunities for integrating the new area, and carried out detailed engagement with key stakeholders, as well as a board workshop.
  • Strategic Planning: Developed a detailed and practical internal operational strategy that provided clear guidance on priorities, deliverables, KPIs and consistent reference points across work areas.
Outcome

The project was delivered in a timely manner, to enable the organisation to move rapidly with decision making and forward planning. The background evidence and detailed engagement undertaken by BlueSalt Consulting provided guidance on the organisation’s role and approach, with the practical strategy setting the organisation up for success. The organisation is now well equipped to maintain its positioning as an expert, with additional engagement and advocacy in a new area.
