Situation

Evidence-based, community-driven plans

The State Government needed science based plans that responded to community level priorities to guide investment as part of the Future Drought Fund.

We were engaged to support Development Commission staff undertake a consultation and communication process, and then develop Regional Drought Resilience Plans for the Central Wheatbelt and Upper Great Southern.

Solution

Stakeholder Consultation & Communications Support

We developed detailed and practical stakeholder consultation plans and all supporting material (desktop published following the agency’s various style guides) to guide the engagement process to inform the development of Drought Resilience Plans and manage risk.

Our team also supported Commission staff implement the plans with advice on stakeholder management. We transformed information generated as part of the consultation process into engaging desktop-published material to share back with stakeholders to close the loop.

Regional Drought Resilience Plan Development

Drawing on an extensive body of research material, technical reports, and stakeholder and community consultation, we worked with the respective Development Commissions to prepare detailed Regional Drought Resilience Plans aligned with the requirements of the Federal Government and reflecting community priorities.

Outcome

These plans were the foundation of the State Government’s submission to the Federal Government’s Future Drought Fund. This unlocked $10.1m in funding along with $10.1m matched by the State Government for the implementation of these two plans and the RDRP for the Midwest.
