WALGA’s RoadWise program team was keen to revisit its strategic plan in a way that captured the insights and expertise of key stakeholders. The team sought a structured approach to facilitate productive discussions among RoadWise members, the Road Safety Commission operational and leadership staff, and other critical stakeholders. The objective was to create a collaborative environment that encouraged open dialogue, built trust, and generated actionable outcomes to guide the program’s strategic focus.

Strategic Planning – WALGA RoadWise & Road Safety Commission
Introduction
The Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) RoadWise program plays a critical role in road safety across the state. To ensure its continued effectiveness and alignment with evolving priorities, the RoadWise team sought to revisit its strategic plan. Recognising the importance of stakeholder engagement and strategic clarity, WALGA engaged BlueSalt Consulting (under our previous branding of Anna Dixon Consulting) to guide the foundational stages of this process. This initiative aimed to foster collaboration and set a clear direction for the future of road safety in Western Australia.

Situation
Solution
BlueSalt worked closely with the RoadWise management team to design a comprehensive and inclusive workshop process. This included:
- Workshop Design: Developing a tailored agenda that fostered strategic thinking and collaboration among participants.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Ensuring that representatives from the RoadWise team, the Road Safety Commission, and other stakeholders were actively involved in the process.
- Facilitation: Conducting a full-day workshop designed to maximise team input and encourage innovative thinking. The session focused on identifying key priorities, opportunities, and challenges while strengthening relationships among participants.

Outcome
The workshop resulted in a detailed summary of findings, including:
- Key insights and priorities identified during the session.
- Clear guidance on the next steps for developing the strategic plan.
- Strengthened rapport and trust among stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment for future initiatives.
This foundational work provided the RoadWise team with a robust framework to advance their strategic planning process, ensuring that the program remains aligned with its mission and the broader road safety goals of Western Australia.
